Setting Bad Precedents

To Whom it May Concern,

While the objective of this compensation plan may be honorable, I feel
the government is setting two very precarious precedents with this
action in present form:

- By basing compensation on income, the government is inherently
valuing some lives higher than others. This is a very slippery slope,
and flies in the face of our founding fathers, who held "all men
equal". While it is a fact of life in a capitalist society that those
of financial means are treated with higher regard than those of lesser
means, the government should not validate this consequence. It makes
much more sense to give a straight amount as is given for non-economic
losses.

- By setting up taxpayer funds to directly compensate victims of this
tragedy, the government is now opening up a Pandora's box for
compensation to victims of any other loss of life due to terrorist
activity, school shooting, war, natural disaster, etc. in the future or
even in the past. Where is the line drawn?

Sincerely,
Individual Comment
Cary NC
