I am appalled that the Victim's Compensation Fund for victims of 9/11 is
excluding the survivors of gay and lesbian victims. To use the excuse that
"state laws don't authorize this" is hypocritical to say the least. State
law doesn't authorize payments to fetuses, either, but that doesn't seem to
be a problem. And no law authorizes the payment to illegal aliens, with a
guarantee that they won't find themselves in trouble with INS as a result.

I don't disagree with the payments to illegal aliens. I do disagree strongly
with the payments to fetuses. But most of all, I find it shameful that gay
and lesbian victims, some of whom were even in the "hero" category, are to be
denied recognition and their survivors left to do without. This is a sad
commentary on our "democracy" and those who are devising the rules for this
compensation.
