What about other families who lose Mom or Dad?
It is a terrible thing that happened to the families of the people hurt and
killed in the World Trade Center Buildings. But is giving the families an
average of 1.5 million dollars of taxpayer money fair to the other thousands
of US families that lose a family member to death by accident or illness each
year.
As a widow and mother, I have struggled for the last 17 years to keep food on
the table and a roof over our head. I have not been able to save money for my
son's college education and have been able to put very little money away for
my retirement. My husband died at the age of 25 due to a hiking accident four
months before our son was born with serious birth defeats. His Social
Security was not enough for us to live on, so I have worked.
Many families could use some extra financial help.
